Save my food truck business

Donation protected
My name is Rick Schoenberger, owner of The BBQ SHACK, LLC. The goal of this fundraiser is basically to save all aspects of my home-based business. After being in business 12 years, I closed my restaurant in May 2018 due to the lease being up, high rent fees, and I could not find enough help. I finally secured funding to purchase a food truck and took delivery at the end of July. We now operate a food truck out of our home-based commissary.

Taking delivery of the truck was quite frustrating, for many reasons. The main one was having to spend operating capital to ship the truck back as opposed to driving it back. The food truck was a new build on a used vehicle. Albeit the used vehicle was a “buy as is” deal, I expected an amount of due diligence from the builder of the truck to provide a vehicle that was roadworthy. I was mistaken. The truck had front end problems that required using capital funds to fix the issue. Getting the front-end axle reworked, new kingpins, new tie rod ends used the remaining capital funds and we are still in need of 2 new front tires and a front-end alignment to get to the point we can travel safely to where the jobs are. And now the passenger side windshield has a full-length crack in it and needs repaired.

In May 2006 I used my retirement fund to open the restaurant. I threw  my heart and soul and every bit of money I had into it. In May 2008, I thought it was in the best interest to move to a new location. Then the economy took a dive. It was a struggle to try and recover from the poor economy over the years and all that was able to be done was survive. Although I should have probably done it 5 years ago, I decided to forego the restaurant and do a food truck. Funding was quite hard to come up with. Also, getting the truck so late in the year, all the large festivals were already booked. Coupled with the shipping and mechanical issues of the truck, it has left us shorthanded on funds. I am hoping the customer base we have built over the years, and our friends, will see to help us out a bit to overcome the immediate need and the next few months. Be assured, many long and hard days have been put in to get to the point we are now and we just need to get over this hump.

With not being able to travel safely and only able to do local sales has left us in dire-straights in paying all the bills, business wise as well as personal. This is the most humbling thing I have ever done is to ask for help on this platform. The need is immediate. It is time to set my pride aside and do what I can to save what I can. Any funds we receive will go toward payments on items we are behind on like the food truck, our home, utilities, and vendors, as well as use for operating capital. While it will directly help my business and myself personally, I would like to think it will help me to continue to provide a brand of BBQ that has been in this community since 1997. In turn for receiving assistance, I personally would be forever grateful. It will help financially, of course, but will also go a long way toward easing the mental anguish of being in the present position. Thank you for your consideration.
