Kids Reach Tall Disability Program

Kids Reach Tall is an inclusive program designed to give support to children with disabilities through the practice of yoga. The program however is truly inclusive by enabling kids of all abilities to join in.
The program is one of a kind in the Illawarra and is not only helping kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Cerebral Palsy, but more importantly is showing able bodied kids that these kids can have fun just like them!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
We believe all people should feel they belong in their community. All kids are welcome at Kids Reach
Tall and will be supported in the way they need to have fun, make friends and stretch!
We know that people living with disabilities are often not well supported in 'mainstream' services due to their additional social, communication and behavioural challenges.
This program not only tackles these issues but is helping to create a new generation of acceptance and inclusion.
WHAT DO THE KIDS LEARN?
Our yoga teacher and assistant are highly trained and experienced in working with children with additional needs.
The kids learn;
*That all kids are equal
*Make new friends regardless of ability
*Exercise with fun yoga games
The program also helps to support young people with disabilities;
*Anxiety management strategies
*Breathing techniques
*Tips to be calm and kind
WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Kids Reach Tall is not a service recognised by NDIS and we receive no money from the government or other funding bodies to run this program.
The families that come to Kids Reach Tall have children with disabilities, and as the research shows these families often face higher costs of living.
The funds we raise here will support these families to participate in the program and not at the expense of something else the family may need.
At this stage Kids Reach Tall will not be running in 2018. To ensure these children have access to Kids Reach Tall we need you to donate!
WHAT WE ARE SEEING
Our pilot project over 2016 and 2017 showed that children who attend Kids Reach Tall show improved behaviour at home and at school.
We have a number of siblings doing the program together... one sister participating in the program commented "this is the first time I've been able to do anything together with my brother in our lives.... it's so great!"
Parents also report that their child now has strategies to control their emotions and behaviour.
Three of our children from 3 different schools have been recognised regarding their improved self regulation in terms of their emotions and behaviours.
Kids Reach Tall is run by Illawarra based not-for-profit charity organisation CareWays Community Inc.
Registered Charity with the ACNC.
