Kids Free Trip to China

Tax deductible

Every year WHPB 98.5 The Wire takes their Mentees & interns on an adventure opportunity to explore other parts of the world, this year the destination will be Hong Kong and Mainland China. We live in a society where minorities are often limited to experiencing amazing life opportunities. We want to expose our students to the endless possibilities of the world. Our station believes that sending these children to countries with different ethnic backgrounds will immerse them into the cultural diversity that is prevalent in our world. From festivals to food, weddings and more, the unique ways different ethnic groups and tribes choose to celebrate life and the ancient customs are mind-blowing. What we are asking for, is your participation to enable these young individuals to experience a trip that will motivate them to better our world.

Three Kids from The Pine Hills community will be traveling to Hong Kong and Mainland China.  Our well deserving students are Sarai Antoine, Brandan Louis, and K'andra Pope, who is part of the 98.5 The Wire Mentoring program. Brandan & K'andra are Senior Honor Roll students at Evans High School. Sarai is a 2018 Graduate of Evans High School and is currently attending Valencia  College. All students are first generation, meaning that they are going to be the first of their family to attend college.

These kids will travel to Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China where they will visit factories and learn more about The Asian Culture. The Asian culture is completely different from the Afro-Carribean culture that these students were born into. Hence, giving them the opportunity to dive into contrasting traditions will revolutionize the way that they look and think about the world.

Hong Kong   has the largest number of skyscrapers in the world. Hong Kong ranks seventh on the UN Human Development Index and has the longest life expectancy in the world.

Guangzhou is recognized as one of China's most prosperous, liberal, and cosmopolitan cities. It is also known as the International Trading Hub.  According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 12.7 million, making it the third largest city in China after Shanghai and Beijing.

Last year, we were able to raise enough funds and send 7 of our mentees to Ghana, Africa. We have seen how much this trip alone has changed the mindset of our students.  Our students were able to learn about African diaspora and rich culture embedded into the Ghanaians.  We want to continue to expose our children to different continent of the world instead of being confined to their communities.

Any donation you give will go towards this life-changing trip. The Kids are Leaving Orlando on January 31 and will return back on February 6.
