Kidney Transplant Surgery

Donation protected
My name is Liz, and my husband and I need your help!

In January 2016, my husband went into renal (kidney) failure after battling IgA Nephropathy for the last couple of years. He was diagnosed in 2008 and we knew this day would come, but we were still shocked and surprised when it did.

This January, Wes's kidney function dropped to 21% and then lower, and he made the painful decision to go on peritoneal dialysis. He began dialysis in June, conincidentally on his birthday! Poor guy. Wes kept a great attitude, saying the dialysis was just a new begining. It was a new begining, and IT WAS HARD. Wes has an awesome kidney doctor and the team at DaVita Dialysis are incredible. They have been helping us every step of the way and we could not have gotten this far without them.

This October, Wes was finally accepted at Barnes for the renal transplant workup. As soon as I could, I completed my donor testing and found out I was a match! After further medical testing for me, the transplant surgeon signed off on my file, and now I have the opportunity to be a kidney organ donor!

I'm excited, plan and simple. When I found out I was a match I felt like a super human, that I am actually able to save another person's life with my own organ! It really is a fantastic feeling, I cannot compare it to anything else. I never thought this would be something I would have the opportunity to do, but I am glad it landed in my lap, because I'm ready.

The transplant team at Barnes is ready as well, and they are waiting for us! The surgery is scheduled for January 31, 2017. I got to pick the date and I picked the next one available.

This past year has been hard, and Wes and I would not have made it through without our family's help. But now I need your help! We need to raise money for medical expenses, bills, perscriptions, etc. We are not profiting from this surgery and organ donors are not compensated in any financial form. I would be forever grateful if I could go into this transplant surgery with a little less stress.

Every donation means a great deal to us. Everyone counts.

We are extramely grateful we have the opportunity to have the transplant surgery, it has been an unforgettable journey.

Thank you!!!!!  Love, Liz and Wes
