While pregnant in with her older son, Kaison, Kori was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. This greatly concerning her doctors, and they monitored her third trimester very closely until Kaison came into the world on September 2, 1999. Following the pregnancy, doctors thought Kori’s blood pressure would return to normal, but it continued to run high. As a result, tests were run, determining the high blood pressure was coming from her kidneys. After a biopsy, Kori was diagnosed with focal segmental glomeruli nephritis. Focal segmental glomeruli nephritis causes scarring of the glomeruli (tiny filters inside the kidney), eventually causing the kidneys to shrink and finally shut down completely.

Following the diagnosis, Kori worked with her nephrologists to try and maintain good kidney function, which worked well until 2015. That fall, Kori was diagnosed with breast cancer. The treatments for the cancer (Chemo and radiation) are contraindicated due to her kidney disease. So, Kori had the only two options available to her, a mastectomy or lumpectomy; therefore, Kori chose to have a bilateral mastectomy to lessen her chances of the cancer returning. The mastectomy resulted in multiple extensive surgeries, . Each surgery caused a hit to her kidneys, lessening the kidney function.

After 19 years and multiple surgeries, Kori’s kidneys have decided to give out! In March, Kori found out her kidney function had fallen to the teens, which meant she could try to find a kidney for a transplant. Luckily, Kori has been blessed with friends and has found a kidney!

The transplant surgery is scheduled for December 5 with recovery being at least two months post-op. Kori is a single mom went to school to obtain her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and is now working on her Masters of Science in Nursing. She currently is a NICU nurse and works nights to provide for her sons.  This surgery will put her out of work for a long period of time.  In addition, Kori's anti-rejection medications will cost $2500 per month.

We thank you for considering a monetary gift to help Kori and her sons (Kaison and Cooper) during the post-transplant period and medical costs in addition to her donor's expenses to travel to San Antonio.  Any amount is greatly appreciated, even $5! God Bless.

Lab Update!!! So over the last 10 years my kidney GFR which is glomerular filtration rate has not been over 30% and has dropped as low as 9% before the transplant. The doctor just came in to tell me my GFR is now 55% with a creatinine level of 1.2 which falls in the normal range of 0.6-1.2!!! I’m NORMAL!!!!

Kori traveled to San Antonio on Tuesday to meet with her doctor. The reduction in her kidney function has decreased to the level that she will need to begin dialysis before the transplant scheduled date. This will most likely begin next week. As a result, she can no longer work. Sadly, she still must keep making her $1350 insurance payment even while not working. This is her number one concern, being able to maintain her insurance payment. Please share this donation link! If you feel you could give just $5, that would be awesome!
