Kiba's Melanoma Surgery

Kiba is an Alaskan Malamute who has been a part of my family since she was a puppy. She's turning 12 years old this summer, and just recently she started bleeding out of her mouth while eating soft food. The vet examined her and found a mass under her tongue that they were able to remove, but sadly the biopsy on it came back as malignant - a cancerous tumor, melanoma.

Kiba was then referred to an oncologist, who had given her a few different options; the one that appears best for her health is the surgical option, which would remove a small part of her lower jaw. It will not impact her quality of life, but it is still a surgery.

The cost of everything is quite large, so far this misfortune has cost us about two thousand dollars, and the upcoming surgery alone will most likely cost in the $3800 - $4500 range.

Thankfully the cancer hadn't yet spread to her lymph nodes or her lungs, so the oncologist had mainly recommended the surgery to try and remove the cancer at the source and hopefully eliminate it. Of course it's not a guaranteed cure, but it is the better choice as it could avoid painful and lengthy chemotherapy, or other stressful treatments.

The posted goal is $5000 just for the worst case scenario, to cover the surgery fully. Any funds in excess of the medical bill will go towards her following medications, future vet visits, different dog food if needed, etc.
