Key Westconsin

Hello, my name is Rita Krivos.  My husband, Gary, and I have been married almost 40 years and for most of that time, it has been Gary's dream to own a restaurant.  A little over four years ago, in January 2011, that dream became a reality when we opened Key Westconsin, a little slice of paradise in the Midwest.  Gary's love of the Florida Keys, especially Key West, provided the inspiration for our restaurant and allowed us to bring some tropical flavor to the frozen tundra!

It has been quite a journey for us with many ups and downs.  We have received 100% every year on our annual health inspections and are also very proud to have been the recipients of the Blue Ribbon Award for clean dining.  We take a great deal of pride in providing great food at great prices in a clean, warm and welcoming atmosphere for our guests.

During the past four years, we have survived Gary's back to back knee replacements as well as being the primary caregivers for his aging parents, providing for them through two brain surgeries and more than a dozen hospital stays.

Somewhere during this journey I realized that Key Westconsin had also become my dream, primarily because of all the wonderful guests and people we have been able to meet and form close bonds with.  These people are much more than guests at our restaurant; many have become dear friends and major parts of our lives.

During Fall 2013, Gary and I felt confident that we were turning a corner and that business at Key Westconsin could not be better.  Shortly following this sense of relief, we endured one of the coldest and most brutal winters in 30 years.  There was also a great deal of road construction right in front of our restaurant, making many guests wonder if we were still open for business.  Ever since then, running our dream restaurant has become a struggle.

We employ between 12-20 people depending on the time of year, one of whom is an autistic young man who is absolutely wonderful.  He has told me many times that when he is working at Key Westconsin, it is the only time that he feels 'normal'.  We would like to continue to provide employment not only for him but also for our other employees.

The biggest financial blow recently came when we had to replace the motor on our HVAC unit.  We also just found out that our oven needs a major repair as well.

We would very much appreciate any help you can give to keep our dream alive.  Even if you are unable to donate financially, we would greatly appreciate your prayers!  Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
