Thank you to all of our friends, family and work colleagues for your genuine kindness, support and generosity for Ken. As a friend and colleague stated, “it speaks to Ken’s friendship and respect within his personal and professional community”. Thank you to the Hatch family who helped start this GoFundMe page and to everyone who contributed. We surpassed our goal and purchasing his wheelchair and wheelchair assessable van which will bring greater mobility and normalcy for Ken.

Ken McVey has been a highly regarded Metallurgist at Hatch since 2001 and was an Associate in the Vancouver office before retiring in 2015. Since 2015 he has helped Hatch on numerous projects as a consultant, and continues to be part of the “Hatch family”.
In late December 2017 Ken had a devastating accident while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He dislocated his neck and damaged his spinal cord. While in Mexico, Ken underwent surgery to stabilize his spine and after 7 days in hospital was medically evacuated to Vancouver. He spent many weeks in the spinal cord unit at Vancouver General Hospital before moving to the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre in mid-February. He currently has no feeling or movement from the chest down and has minimal movement in his upper body and arms. He will now spend several months at GF Strong recovering and adapting to his limitations before returning home to be reunited with his family.
Ken is making great progress in his rehabilitation. As you can imagine, Ken and Moira will have to make many adjustments to their lifestyle and we thought this was where we could help. Ken will require a specialized wheelchair and wheelchair accessible van to return home and we are seeking donations for this cause.
As friends and colleagues, we would like to help Ken get home as soon as possible. Hatch has also generously offered to match the funds raised. Any donations are appreciated and will contribute to Ken’s future well-being.
