SHORT SUMMARY

Hello friends and family. This is Kendra Villiger. I am raising money for the mixing/mastering and printing of my first original, full-length album, which I have been working on for the past 2 years at Earthtone Analog Recording Co. in Corydon, Indiana. We will be mixing and mastering with the masterful Dave Barrick at Barrick Studio in Glasgow, KY. He has a fairly extensive catalog of well-known artists he's worked with, and I cannot wait for him to put his mark on my record as well.

First and foremost, I am thankful for all of the support and hard work that has been put in thus far on the work of my album by the absolutely brilliant people and musicians of Earthtone Analog Recording Co., where I've been tracking my songs. I know all of you may have heard me talking about recording an album and may have seen photos posted or clips of progress on social media. We are right near completion of tracking and almost ready for mixing/mastering!

HOW IT STARTED

This project is extremely personal and very dear to me, as any artist's original work should be. I began writing these songs about 2 or so years ago. It all began with just jamming in the studio with the idea of recording a 3-song EP. As we jammed out some ideas and songs I had, it all kinda exploded everywhere. There were just too many songs and ideas I wanted to get out. I couldn't just pick a few.

The beginning of the process was pretty terrifying to me. The idea of deciding what I would call ME and MY music, what sound I was, and how to portray what I wanted to portray, how to pull these songs out of me and really breathe life into them... I had only ever played in cover bands before this. That, and I have so many musical influences. Like, what do?  But once things got going, I really learned that I just have to be as I am right now, stop thinking so much, and just do (I got some great advice about this at the time from Joann Dixon of Joann + The Dakota.) These songs represent a time in my life. They are emotions and feelings from a point in time, arranged and decorated with sounds and instruments. That is what it is, of course.

THE ALBUM

I am very excited to share these songs with everyone. The album is definitely rooted in classic rock, though it is fairly genre crossing. It moves between upbeat rock n roll vibes, to blues rock riffs, americana/folksy feels, to in-your-face garage rock n roll, eerie, haunting tunes, a piano ballad, and even some funky soul feels. It definitely moves around. And I can't wait to share.

All of the songs on the album were written directly about where I was in life at that point in time. Some may be about relationships that fade away, or the desire to connect with a person that you once knew. One in particular I wrote about the way a page of a book gifted to me made me feel. It struck me and resonated in such a way with situations I was finding myself in. People I was involved with. Places I was going. Thoughts I was having. What I thought about myself. A few songs came out of me a bit angry and sarcastic. But that's the way they came. A lot of the songs wrote themselves and I just let them kinda flow through me.

There are 10 original songs on the album, including a song co-written by Bryce Gill from the Louisville Accord Project (and there may or may not be a secret 11th song... but its a secret, so I can't tell you for sure!). It has taken me quite some time on this first album venture, I want to say because of the nature of writing as a solo artist, writing most all of the instruments in each song, but particularly, my own mental set backs and such.

THE MUSICIANS

I'm BEYOND thrilled to share the musicians on the album as well. It feature musicians/artists from the Earthtone Analog family such as Chet Surgener, Joe Easly, Owen Reynolds, Steve Sturgill, Tim Ragan (the Louisville Strangler), Desiree Thayer, Jason Logsdon, and also a few friends like Aaron Filkins, and long-time friend Josh Druin. I know I've forgotten some people. Sorry... I'll get ya all on the album notes and creds ;)

 A LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Woah. I've learned so much recording my first album, dudes. Mostly, how not to go about recording/writing an album. Hah! I learned how to play the talk box. I did my own talk box tracks, I learned to play funky clav, I even played a harmonium (or pump organ) with the bellows that you pump with your feet! We've done some cool backwards effects and some neat percussion stuff, soon to include a frog guiro and all. Super fun. I definitely learned how to make decisions and just go with them. That too.

WAYS TO HELP

In all honesty, I am not someone to ask for help. Ever. But this means the world to me. So I'm making an exception and trying not to grind my teeth too much when I say I would be infinitely grateful to you. If you cannot (or decide not) to contribute financially, I understand whole-heartedly, but you can still help! A share on social media is very advantageous too! Just copy and paste the link and I'll be extremely appreciative.

Thank you from the bottom and top and deepest depths of my heart for stopping by my page and giving it a thought. Music will be in my life forever, regardless of the time, place, situation, people, way, shape, or form. Thank you for helping me at the very start of my creative exploration.

Cheers!
