KEMPY NEEDS SURGERY

Donation protected
WOW WE NEED HELP! We found out that my husband is going to be having life-changing surgery in November and though he has private health insurance- the surgery still requires $3000 a month before surgery! and $500 to the private hospital. It's now less than a month away before the money is due. (it is much better than the $20-30,000 it could have cost without insurance- which was almost not going to cover him at all because of the Medicare code of the operation. (worst 2 weeks of our lives) Kempy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 3 - he doesn't remember life without it. As a result of his diabetes being 26 years old he has calcified scarring. This disease is never going away but it isn't going to stop him from living a normal life. It is medically necessary that he have the foreign bodies removed and dead skin cut away and have a new abdominal wall, without the issue of fat necrosis or insulin injection site dystrophic calcifications. After this operation he will eventually be able to use the new untraumaed skin and flesh for insulin therapy. The four viable sites that he has are getting crowded with lipohypertrophy because he doesn't have enough areas to insert cannulas and rest the affected areas.  When you think diabetic- he is not what you picture. He has never smoked, he still plays soccer and trains 2 night's a week as well as sees a GP, endocrinologist, dietitian and works full time. He is a dad of 3 boys, he is the soccer coach of the older 2. This is not due to any of his life choices- He has done everything right. This disease is not a defining factor in his life, he still grew up normal (for him), went to school, university and is now a teacher - but because he has had it for 26 years it has taken it's toll on his body. He has been hospitalised on numerous occasions because of it; hyper or hypoglycemic, ketoacidosis, infection because of his lack of immunity.  The surgery will have him miss out on 5 weeks work (thankyou sick pay!). He has been a teacher for a local Sale school for 7 years; he currently teachers VCE English and Theatre Studies (he even made sure his surgery wouldn't be at a time that the student's would need him for support in exam time). He is also a Junior soccer coach at Sale for the second year running and is such an asset to the community- but most of all an awesome dad and husband that we'd like to have around for lots of years to come. Our family is not used to asking for help but as I am currently on maternity leave with a 1 and a half year old and we have a 15 and 14 year old as well, we need to.  If you aren't able to help financially a share would be amazing.
