Kelsey Meldrum Fund

Donation protected

Hi I'm setting up a fund me page for my brother Billy Meldrum and his partner Helen Beasley, on the 13th February 2017, they took their 4 year old, Kelsey (aka moo moo's) to the doctors for stomach pain and sickness and was advised to take her to the Bluefin ward at Worthing hospital. Kelsey was taken for an ultrasound, at which point neither of them would realise that their world was about to be turned upside down. Kelsey was admitted to hospital and they were informed that she had a tumour in her abdomin. The hospital then explained that Kelsey would need specialist treatment and that she was going to be transferred to Southampton General Hospital. Whilst there she underwent an unbelievable amount of scans and tests, mainly because the type of tumour she had was rarely seen so the consultants needed to make sure that if they were to operate then they would not be subjecting her to further risk. On the 2nd March Kelsey had a biopsy and a bone marrow extraction, within this time Kelsey became quite poorly her blood pressure went dangerously low which resulted in blood and platelet transfusions and blood pressure medication. On the 9th March Kelsey had her tumour removed and prior to this the consultant asked my brother if it was ok if he could do a water colour painting of her tumour, at which he agreed. My brother sent me this picture and theres no way to explain it i was gobsmacked, to actually see this thing that was making this gorgeous little girl so poorly was frightening. The tumour was sent to Newcastle labs so they could determine if she required further treatment. Within days Billy and Helen recieved the news that the tumour was an abdominal neuroblastoma but the next steps were unsure.....as the type of cancer she had been diagnosed with there had only been, including her, 3 people in the world to have it. This then required many Consultants to have an international census regarding her ongoing treatment and care. With in the few weeks that my brother was able to bring Kelsey home, they have still had to make ongoing trips to back and forth to Southampton Hospital for more tests and screenings and each time the treatment plan changes......... Its gone from a mild dose of chemo to 4 rounds and then finally to needing 6 rounds of chemotherapy as well as Radiation and then once thats done she will then need to undertake oral chemotherapy at home. In total they have explained that this will happen over the next 12 months! As a parent they have also been asked to think about Kelseys future and thus having to have the conversation of having her eggs taken and frozen, which is a further operation that will need to take place prior to her chemotherapy starting on the 5th May. The reason for me setting up the page is to give them a helping hand with travel expenses. To date with petrol and daily parking they are spending within the region of £75 to £100 per trip. As they both need to take their cars, purely for the fact that they have other children so have been trying to fit all of Kelseys appointments round school and other committments. So hopefully a little weight can be lifted for them
