Kelly's Books, previously Crossroads, first opened in 1994, and came under my management in 2011. As many of you know, I was evicted from Crossroads Plaza, along with 8 other businesses to make way for Kaiser Permanante. With only 30 days notice, it was a huge and unexpected blow.
This happened in tandem with my husband facing massive health concerns and Kelly's Books closed for 7 months. Fortunately, I was able to take out a SBA loan and reopen Watsonville's only bookstore in our new location.
Kelly's Books has been able to keep a foothold throughout the ups and downs until now. The holiday sales for 2018 were significantly lower than usual. With invoices from major suppliers coming due and the high rent, I am in need of your help. Please consider donating a small amount so Watsonville won't lose our treasured bookstore.
Competition is steep in the Amazon jungle but Kelly's Books is much more than just the products we sell. We are a unique space in the community, a place where browsing, chatting, and intellectual expansion are encouraged. Kelly's Books showcases local art, authors, and organizations. Readings by local authors are popular events and often attract a warm crowd. Next month an animal rescue group will be throwing an adoption event at the shop and our space maintains an important role in Watsonville.
Lets dig our heels in and support Watsonville's loved book shop. A heartfelt thank you to all of my customers who continue to support the store. The doors are open because of you!
