Kellie Wise was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at the age of 39. After multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, her battle ended two years later with her passing September 12, 2016. It is the wish of her husband and two young sons that her legacy of helping others continues.
The Kellie Wise Scholarship Fund will award one scholarship to a Northwestern High School senior who has been admitted to an accredited Ohio community college, with plans on completing the nursing program. This specific program was singled out due to the extraordinary service and care provided to Kellie, and her family, by each and every nurse we came in contact with during her treatment. Additionally, Kellie started at a local community college, later earning her Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. It only seems fitting that the scholarship be bestowed upon another that takes a similar path.
The Northwestern HS guidance department will provide applications to eligible students and Steven Wise, Kellie's Husband, will select the recipient each year. A check will be provided to the university in the student's name to pay expenses prior to the fall semester. The amount of this scholarship will be determined by the amount of donations received each year, with Steven Wise matching those annual contributions.
If you knew Kellie, you understand the importance of this scholarship. If you never met her, she cared deeply for all she came in contact with, whether it be Iraqi orphans, hurricane survivors, or poverty stricken students in Uganda.
She was more than a small town, stay at home mom. She was a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. Let us continue her efforts of caring for others!
