Kelin’s College Tuition Fund!

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Kelin Escobar. I’m 18 years old and recently was accepted to my dream school, Emerson College and I only have two days to pay my college tuition payment before I am kicked out. I am in a totally different state and have no place to call home.
Against all odds, I beat out statistics. I’m the daughter of undocumented immigrants from Honduras and Guatemala, who managed to graduate at top 5% of my class, with various leadership positions, and a 4.5 G.P.A. I was accepted to Emerson College in December for Early Decision.
After years of working hard studying and trying my best, I finally got in. That in my family was unheard of! We were all so happy.
Emerson College accepted me into their Writing, Literature, and Publishing program with a scholarship of $18k per year. That program is one of the best from the field of Publishing. It was a dream come true. Until it started crashing down.
Recently, my mother has been laid off from majority of her jobs. She’s undocumented and tries getting jobs in the housekeeping and cleaning industry. It takes about seven days a week, two jobs a day that last from 9 am to 8 pm to bring a total of $500 on the table. Our rent is over $1,000 for a tiny two bedroom house, one a bathroom for a family of five. My stepfather works over 9 hours a day, 6 days a week to make ends meet for the rest our expenses. I can’t tell you the amount of fear and frustration it is coming home to find out the light is disconnected and we can’t pay until a week after or when we don’t have water so we have to borrow from our neighbors. We can barely afford food as it is with food stamps. We are living paycheck by paycheck and we can’t afford it. The only reason why we aren’t evicted from our apartment of ten years is that we are friends with the manager and we can convinced her to sometimes let us pay it a few days or so late.
My mother came from Honduras while pregnant with me. She endured starvation, dehydration, illnesses, and witnessed brutal deaths. All so I could have an education. Now that I have the opportunity, I don’t have the funding. My college is paying over 33k per year and the whole total for all four years is 70k. I am being told to pay over 10k per semester despite my situation and I don’t know what to do. Not even payment plans can help me because they make us pay over 3k per month. My family can barely splurge on our water, rent, and light bill, much less my education. Not even on a little percentage because my brothers are starting middle and high school, so they have other expenses on my hand. As the first one to graduate high school from my family and have the opportunity to go to college, I feel like I am letting everyone down because it was going to be our way out of poverty.
I try to keep optimism and hope in my heart to not fall in the perpetual cycle of poverty and attend college, but everyday it seems harder and harder.
Any amount donate is highly appreciated. No amount is too little. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
