Leanne's cancer fund!

2018 was going to be my year, after a difficult 2017, this was going be the year, to live my dream, to travel more, to do the job I’d always wanted to do, little did I know what lay ahead.

Sometime back in March I booked an appointment to get my 'boob lump' looked at again - the lump that 2 years previous my GP told me was no big deal, definitely not cancer, I was too young (29), no family history, just a normal lumpy boob. This time I was referred to get an ultrasound and biopsy done and within hours the doctor told me she thought it was cancer!

Fast forward to Friday 13th April (!!) after 3 weeks of biopsy’s, MRI scans, CT scans, bone scans, blood tests and countless hospital visits, I was dealt the blow that it was cancer and it had already spread to other areas of my body and I have been living with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, at the age of 31. This makes my cancer incurable. This is pretty much the worst it gets and the odds are stacked against us stage 4ers! Treatment is offered to maintain the cancer, but my cancer will never go away, I will never be 'out the other side'.

It is unbelievably devastating at my age to know that you future is limited, and uncertain, and to know that the life I had planned for, of travelling the world, having a family, my dream job, is unlikely to happen. This has been the hardest mental struggle so far. It is also devastating to know that I have sat patiently with this disease for 2 years, when back then things would have been very different for me. But instead of locking myself away and feeling sorry for myself and being angry, I made the decision to face it head on, with positivity, to accept what is happening to me, and do everything I can to support my own healing.

I am currently on a treatment plan of hormone therapy and oral chemo in a bid to stabilise the tumors (and hopefully shrink a few!) and will be on this treatment until it stops working...This treatment has given me a great opportunity to start looking for alternative therapies, trials, other treatments open to me but all of this comes at a cost, a cost way beyond my means, and I really don’t want my financial situation to be the reason I can’t access these treatments and get the best for myself! I am currently healthy and strong and am wanting to stay that way to try and help to stop my cancer from growing and spreading!

My cancer diagnosis unfortunately coincided with the end of my work contract and I have therefore been out of work for two months for the first time in my adult life, which is becoming a huge struggle. Any money donated would be so beneficial to keep a roof over our head and bills paid if nothing else, but hopefully will also help towards paying for treatments, therapies, good healthy food, and will give me the opportunity to look into alternative treatment centers oversees at other treatment options that are available, rather than wait until it’s too late!

Thank you so much for reading this, if you got this far, and thank you in advance for any money you are able to donate, any help will be greatly appreciated! I have so much will and determination to heal this cancer but need some support to help me, and hopefully give me the opportunity to make what’s left of 2018 my year!!
