Joe Lewellyn, a Marine veteran who served in Vietnam and lives in Joseph, Oregon resident, is an outdoor enthusiast who lost a leg two years ago to complications from Agent Orange exposure. His power wheelchair could not meet the demands of last year's heavy winter, so he spent several months mostly homebound. Joe applied to the Independence Fund in North Carolina for an Action Track Chair in November 2016 was gifted one in May 2017. When delivering the Track Chair, the vendor informed Joe that a shed is needed to protect the controls from moisture and rodent damage to the sensors.
The Enterprise  (Oregon) VFW Post 4307  has agreed to build a shed, which will include a deck and electricity for charging the batteries.
Friends who want to Keep Joe Rolling are raising funds  to  buy building materials and construct the shed before the snow flies this fall.  To complete this job before winter sets in is of utmost importance.
Thank you to all our supporters!

We got 'er done. Or at least Kim and his helpers did. Joe couldn't be happier. The Keep Joe Rolling project reflects what a community can do, within and out of the bounds of our county. We had gofundme donors from across the country. I thank each and every one of you. You played a part in this success. Welcome Home, Joe!

The Shed, part 2. Kim, VFW Post Commander designed the shed and gave me the materials list. Thanks to 1917 Lumber for the discount! Joe the Marine wanted a metal roof instead of asphalt shingles because of our high winds. Though we agreed, I didn't know where they would come from, and prayed. That evening when I got on Facebook, someone I didn't know messaged me, "My husband just came home with a load of metal roofing from a job. Could you use some for the shed?" Oh, yes! Kim picked it up. I still haven't met them but we are so grateful!

So many of you have supported the shed project for Vietnam Marine Joe Lewellyn in Joseph, Oregon. It's built and I want to share the neat way all this has unfolded. Last week, Kim Hutchison (VFW Post Commander) showed up with pre-fabbed shed components he had built in his shop when we had those snow days. After he leveled concrete blocks for the foundation, Tobey Koehn showed up with his JCS shop class to help with set up. Found out Tobey served in the Army National Guard.
In short order, Kim had the kids methodically and safely lift the walls to set it up. At the first wall, Kim barked out "Lift" when it was time and they moved it in unison to the back yard. What was so darn cute was at the other times, one of the kids took over and called out "Lift!" and gave orders. Some of the kids shared one work glove with others so most everyone had at least one glove.
We got a kick out of them, especially Joe. They were so impressed with the Track Chair, and gathered round him for a good "Semper Fi" (This is the third pic, with their mouths open. I wish I had videoed that.) Sgt. Pete Podengo photobombed the pic. They came, they worked, they left. Joe was so appreciative. Good job Kids! And thanks Tobey! (More to come...)

The shed has begun! Yesterday, Kim Hutchison, VFW Post Commander arrived at Joe's with pre-fabbed parts of shed he had built at his shop. It was an unusually warm day in fall to begin assembling the shed. We were grateful for that!
See the green metal roofing? A few weeks ago, we decided to go with metal roofing instead of shingles. I scratched my head and prayed, wondering where/how we would get that. Later that day, I got on my Facebook page and Sadra Adele Beckman-Claypool, whom I've never met, messaged me out of the blue that they had some roofing to donate to the project if we needed it. Thank you God!
