Keep Frank the Tank Going Strong

Frankie wasn't himself on Sunday, 11/19, breathing heavily and seemingly uncomfortable. This is very unlike Frank, hence the nickname, Frank the Tank. He is a big, handsome boy and is very gentle and sweet.
We kept an eye on him and, on Monday, called his vet. We were referred to Wachusett Animal Hospital where Dr. Dan made the initial diagnosis of congestive heart failure (CHF). An ultrasound showed a significant amount of fluid in his lungs and an electrocardiogram confirmed that he was having intermittent arrhythmia. Frank spent 2 nights at Wachusett receiving oxygen therapy and IV Lasix. Dr. Dan highly recommended we bring Frank to see a cardiologist.

We took the first available appointment at BluePearl in Waltham. Dr. Kursten confirmed Dr. Dan's diagnosis of CHF. Dr. Kursten took the time to fully examine Frank and explain in detail his condition and what we can do.
BluePearl Specialty & Emergency Pet Hospital
Frank was sent home with an optimistic prognosis, that with medication, monitoring, and changes to his diet, he can live out the rest of his life comfortably.
Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)
The amount of time we have left with Frank is unknown. It could be months or even years if he continues to respond well to the medication. Frank will be seeing Dr. Kursten in 4 months to see how he progressing.
Frank was adopted, along with his little brother Dale, in March of 2011. Our boys bring us so much joy and love. Frank's diagnosis was shocking and upsetting for all of us.
All money raised will go towards paying his medical bills. Frank's stay at Wachusett totaled nearly $1500. His visit to BluePearl was just shy of $600. We are anticipating his medication costing roughly $60 per month.
I cannot say enough good things about the folks over at Wachusett Animal Hospital and BluePearl. The quality of care Frank recevied and the respect and understanding for our wellbeing, as a family, by Dr. Dan and Dr. Kursten, is priceless.
