A Celebration of Life and Death with Community

Our 6th Annual Day of the Dead celebration will take place on Saturday, November 3rd in Lamont Park on Mt. Pleasant Street in the heart of Washington, DC’s Latino Barrio.  The Day of the Dead is a grassroots, artist-led event that combines Latin American traditions, culture and the work of local artists in a celebration.  This is a family-friendly event with all ages welcome!

This event has been a labor of love created by the community for the community. The organizers have covered all of the expenses – mainly for supplies to build the altar – out of their own pockets, with some contributions of food and drink from local businesses.

This year, we would like to cover the costs and offer participating artists a small honorarium. Please help us raise $3,000 to cover the costs.  Please consider making a contribution and joining us for the celebration!!

Check out the photos from past years!!  The event features an elaborate altar designed and built by artists local Alfredo Herrera,  Juan Lopez, Quique Aviles, and Mauricio Lopez. All the designs and artwork on the altar are handmade and designed by the artists. The community is invited to participate by bringing photos of relatives or friends that have passed away and that they wish to celebrate by saying or writing something about the life of that person. The event also features a program with local singers, musicians, poets, DJs, as well as traditional Day of the Dead Face Painting for children.
