THE ISSUE:
Around the Globe, Girls often must drop out of School once they reach puberty & start menstruating.
The simple fact is that many girls cannot afford sanitary products & schools often do not have washrooms for girls. Boys and even teachers may shame girls at this new stage in their life.
THE RESULT:
Girls stop going to School and miss out on a lifetime of opportunity just because they cannot afford sanitary products.
THE MISSION:
One woman has decided to make it her Mission to change that: she has begun a Campaign to get Girls what they need to be able to stay in school ~ & change the climate around boys & teachers’ attitudes towards girls.

MEET THE CHANGEMAKER:
Hello Friends, My name is Hope Nankunda, the co-founder of Health Promotion and Rights Watch Uganda, &Central Regional Coordinator for Girls Not Brides ~ Uganda National Alliance.
Our organizations work to strengthen health systems, lives of women & Girls, & my organization also focuses on Menstrual Hygiene management for Girls.
Many young girls end up pregnant or a Child Bride simply because they cannot afford the cost of sanitary towels. They may be orphans with no money, from poor families, or men may promise to provide them with the sanitary products they need to stay in school ~ but only after having sex with them.
Girls from poor families who want an Education are often left with no alternative and soon find themselves pregnant, suddenly battling HIV/AIDS ~ and must drop out of school and possibly also marry as a child as a way to survive.
Their dreams of becoming Educated & no longer poor are over ~ often by the young age of 11-14.

ACTIONS:
Health Promotion & Rights Watch supplies Girls with Sanitary Products, teaches them how to safely re-use them, & provides counseling services. One Girl can have the necessary Sanitary Products to Stay in School for only $5 a year.
PLEASE DONATE & KEEP A GIRL IN SCHOOL FOR A YEAR
We believe that Boys should be Allies for Girls ~ so we also Educate & Counsel Boys on how to support
their Sisters in this special time in their lives. We also educate Parents & Communities on the Economic & Social Benefits of Supporting Girls to stay in School and Delay Marriage.
Our current work is in Uganda ~ bur we hope this Campaign will spread Far & Wide so that every young girl as she reaches Puberty can stay in school.

I personally deeply understand the challenges Girls face ~ as an orphan my only Sister had a baby when she was just 14 years old due to these same circumstances. Her future to become educated like I did ended then, and it’s with the Love for her that I have dedicated my life to saving as many girls as possible from my sister’s predicament.
