Keavy's First Artist Residency
Donation protected
Hi! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Keavy Handley-Byrne and I am just now finishing my first year of graduate school at the Rhode Island School of Design. I am one of six candidates for an MFA in photography for the class of 2020. I was very lucky to be given a graduate fellowship through RISD, as well as two assistantships -- one running the student Red Eye Gallery and one working on The Winter Garden Photograph Project with editor Odette England, PhD. Additionally, I am a teaching assistant and am pursuing a certificate in collegiate teaching, hoping to work in arts education in the New York City area post-graduation.
I am a 28-year-old nonbinary photographer. I am constantly working to give back to my community of trans and queer family and friends, and hope to use my platform to support other trans and queer artists.
As a part of being a working artist and continuing through the MFA program, I have been applying to both interior and exterior grants, scholarships, fellowships, and residencies, and was lucky enough to be accepted to a summer residency at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. The residency does not come with any funding, and I am therefore responsible for both tuition and my materials. My tuition is due on June 3rd!
The reason that I'm attending this residency is to get a variety of feedback from NYC artists on my work, to help it further grow and change. This will also give me the connections I need to make in-roads in the NYC art scene, and the facilities and resources to continue creating work through the summer.
I am hoping to raise money for the following:
- Tuition: $3000.00
- Materials (inkjet printing paper, 4x5 film): $1463.30
- Travel and additional expenses: $536.70
With your help, I will be able to add this prestigious residency to my resume and further my reach as an artist and photographer. I am so grateful to all of my friends and family who have supported me thus far!
