The Gould Family has experienced tremendous challenges in the past 10 months. Dave and Kym Gould were fantastic parents, friends, and contributors to our community.
In addition to raising a family, the Goulds continuously gave of themselves to others; for many years Dave served as a part-time police officer with the City of High Point Police Department. That was in addition to his full-time job. Kym has for years served as a key staff member at Johnson Street Global Studies, a K-8 magnet school which makes a tremendous positive impact in the children's lives.
Both Dave and Kym also served for years as Boy Scout leaders with Troop 42 and Pack 24.
In 2017 Dave was diagnosed with Melanoma. His prognosis was serious, yet he was determined to fight bravely. Thanks to an experimental treatment Dave's cancer was stalled.
Unfortunately, shortly after Dave began making progress, tragedy struck the family in May of 2018 when youngest son Cameron died in a motorcycle accident. He was 24 years old.
As Dave, Kym, and their oldest son Evan mourned Cameron's death, Dave's cancer returned.
In Autumn of 2018 Dave began experiencing multiple health issues which complicated his battle with cancer.
On Christmas Day, Dave was admitted to the hospital in very serious condition. With Kym by his side, Dave fought an almost three-month struggle while receiving inpatient hospital treatment.
Dave passed away March 12th.
During Dave's illness he was not only unable to work, but he and Kym faced the reality of mounting medical bills, as well as the fact that their regular expenses continued without Dave's income.
Kym and Evan face many challenges as they grieve Dave's passing.
