Bring Emily Home

Kim and Matt need to bring Emily home so she can get the best care and have the best chance for a strong recovery.

While serving as a Japanese Exchange teacher and Cultural Ambassador in the small town of Akita, Japan, Emily Hatchett had a skiing accident and suffered a broken back.  She was taken to the local hospital.   Her Mom, Kim, arrived shortly thereafter to learn that Emily will need surgery and lengthy therapy.

As any mother would, Kim is doing everything she can to ensure Emily gets the best care and treatment, but the language barrier is making things extremely difficult.  There are no English speaking personnel at the hospital, she and Emily have only the sweet support of a few of Emily's co-workers, and they are far away from family and the best treatment options in the U.S.

The cost of medical transport is over $100,000.  Parents Matt and Kim will do whatever it takes in order for Emily to get the best care, but the financial burden will be tough.  Emily's overseas insurance coverage is already depleted, and her hospital expenses also continue to mount.

Please consider a donation to help cover transport costs!
No amount is too small and certainly no amount is too large.

*** UPDATE***MARCH 8th-- Kim and Matt secured a loan to pay for the Medevac flight-- the entire amount had to be paid up front.   Emily landed in Atlanta  3/7 at 10:30 PM and is now at the Emory University Emergency Room, waiting to be seen.  We will provide updates as we get them.   Again, please consider a donation to help the Hatchett family.  Prayers for Emily are welcome too!

***UPDATE***MARCH 9th-- THE BEST NEWS!  Emily's Emory Doctors gave her a much better prognosis.  She has a major compression fracture but will likely NOT need surgery and will instead undergo 2-3 months of rehab and rest.  The decision to bring her home was an expensive one, but it was the right one.  Medical expenses for Emily are now close to $150,0000.    Donations AND prayers for Emily needed and appreciated.

***UPDATE*** MARCH 10th--  Today, Emily might TRULY GO HOME -- to Dublin!

Thanks to awesome doctors, incredible love, prayers, & support, and a few small miracles along the way, we are hoping Emily will be released with her fitted brace and a plan for therapy for the next few months.

We've all heard the saying, "Go big OR go home". Well, we've changed it to "Go big AND go home! Emily is headed home and will hopefully make a complete physical recovery. We want to help the Hatchetts recover financially as well, so we've made the campaign goal BIGGER--$35,000!   Including the cost of Medevac transport from Japan, Emily's mounting medical costs are around 150k.

Please consider a donation & please share this GoFundMe!
