Kayla Marie Life Threatening Medical Expenses

Lets do this right, Juneau. We all know what financial devastation this is going to cause on Kayla and her family... please read and then donate what you can to help this family get through.

It was just a normal everyday Monday afternoon in mid-July, Juneau, Alaska when it seemed the whole town of over 30,000 people and countless tourists all caught their breath at the sight of traffic being detoured away from what may be one of the most horrific auto crashes Juneau has seen in years. Many of us raced through a rolodex of people we knew who might be the 31-year old woman ejected from her SUV during a single person rollover crash. We all prayed for whomever it was and even more so prayed for her family as many could not believe this person could possibly have survived. When those of us who know Kayla discovered it was in fact the energetic, bright, good-hearted, resilient woman who was swiftly taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital we came together as her friends.... desperate to get to her side, to hold her hand, to remind her how much she is needed in this world.

Her closest friend, Shalaya Palmer, recognized Kayla’s automobile from a post online and raced to the hospital in time to support Kayla’s medical team with information so they could contact her mother and get Kayla medivac’d to Seattle as quickly as humanly possible.

Many in this community sat in our cars. We sat in miles long, two-lane, bumper to bumper barely moving traffic. And this community prayed for this woman whom even if we did not know personally-  many of us recognized her from working out at the gym, as your neighbor, from her time caring for your elderly grandparents, from just that ‘Juneau-thing’ we have here.

And many of us hugged our children, our spouses, and our friends a little harder. Hoping and praying that this girl made it to Seattle- much less recovered and made it back home.

And she did! Kayla made it to Seattle HarborView Hospital accompanied by her mother. Kayla is receiving intensive care support from amazing doctors, nurses, and all their team. She had repeat brain scans last night and where as of this evening they show the bleeding in her brain has stopped and she is stabilized and they were able to close up her head injuries with stitches. This morning she underwent surgery and they were able to pin her pelvis back together. It looks as if it will be another day until they can get her off the breathing tubes.

At at this time her mother reports that while she is resting most of the time- she is responsive, and is being told how much we all love her and care for her. She is in for a long, long recovery- but the best news is that doctors say every hour that goes by Kayla is stronger and stronger!

Please support this family. Not because she was perfect, not because she was a saint.... but because she could have been me, or him... or her... or even you....
