I'm Kayelyn, a current PhD Student in Marine Science at North Carolina State University.
For my dissertation, I will be conducting research on coral reef soundscapes in the marine protected areas offshore of Key West, FL within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Throughout my academic and research career, I have esteemed to become a lead scientist in the areas of reef fish ecology and conservation. As an African American woman scientist aiming to achieve my doctoral degree, I hope to inspire other women minorities to get involved in higher education in the STEM sciences. I plan to achieve this personal goal by creating my own non-profit organization in the future, which facilitates networks for participating in research and obtaining scholarship opportunities.
My goal is to raise $2000 to cover boating expenses by May 15th. Raising this money will go directly towards my research expenses (boat rental, boat fuel, docking fees, dive safety equipment, etc.) and will help me pursue my doctoral research. I am still waiting to hear back from three funding grants this summer, however until then I am funding myself to pursue my dream job.
I will be eternally grateful for any funds raised! Also, I will happily and openly share my progress in the field in May so you know exactly how impactful your personal donations are towards my doctoral degree!
