Katie's pacemaker replacement.

Donation protected

I was 26 when I first learned that I needed a pacemaker. I had started to lose weight and get healthy, and because of that, my heart rate lowered, revealing a heart issue I didn't know was there.

Now I'm 34, a single mom, and doing my best to make ends meet. I knew the battery would die out, but I always thought that life would "turn around" by the time it did and I'd be able to save up money to cover the expense of the surgery.

The last year was incredibly hard but it taught me that I'm not alone. Family and friends have supported me through failures, struggle, job changes, and sickness.

The need to replace this pacemaker came up unexpectedly and I knew, I needed to ask my friends and family for help. I knew that I COULD because of the way they've been there through all of the other ups and downs.

God is good and he works through US to take care of each other.

I would appreciate this help so much. When I sat in that doctors office today my first thought was, "will my ex-husband be back in time to take care of our son?" Followed by, "but what about the climbing trip I'm training for?!" And then, "Holy shit. How am I going to pay for this?

When I called the insurance company to ask how much this would cost I wanted to vomit. $32,000 - $100,000 just for the generator. BUT the insurance specialist explained that my maximum out of pocket is "only" $6,850.

Only six thousand dollars.  My stomach still turned.

I wish I had an emergency fund. I wish I had a credit card to put this on. Unfortunetly, I live paycheck to paycheck. I work 4 jobs trying to hustle to pay my normal bills, and now I have this!

It's scary to have surgery as a single mom. It's scary to have a battery hooked up to my heart. It's terrifing to feel trapped by the debt that will come from this.

Please consider donating $6. If all of my facebook friends did that, this would be totally covered!

I know it's weird to ask for money, but I don't know what else to do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for considering helping me! I hope someday I'll be wealthy and I can repay all of the kindness that has been shown to me!
