Katie Kicks GBS

Donation protected
By now many of you may know that my sister-in-law Katie started to experience some loss of sensation in her extremities which then lead to balance problems.  On August 18, 2019 she went in and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.   She was immediately admitted to the hospital to start treatment.  Unable to walk, now the difficulty of being able to feed herself & her body’s capability to swallow a feeding tube was placed for a short time.  Katie, along with doctors felt she was showing good signs & on the upswing.  So on August 30th Katie transitioned from ICU to Rehab.  Which was a nice change of pace.   She was able to be pushed around outside with her family, dog Mason and more importantly Svea was able to join in and that is always much needed company.

A week into Rehab Katie started to experience some breathing difficulties. She was transferred back to the ICU with pneumonia.  Their hopes were to only use some assisted airway (O2) for her but eventually Katie’s breathing needed a little more assistance and she was put on a ventilator Saturday, September 7th and today is the current state.

There is always light at the end of the tunnel.  This tunnel just may be longer than Katie or Matt would like.  I know a lot of you have been asking how you can  help.  First and foremost.....PRAYERS.  Continued prayers for her strength & health; prayers for my brother Matt as he navigates this journey by her side; prayers for my niece Svea who has gone 25 days without her mommy being at home.

We all know Katie & Matt would never ask for help.  But in true sibling fashion I’m going to do it for them (even though they wouldn’t want me to)  With the amount of time out of work to be determine (weeks, months) I know the expenses will add up.  Not to mention the transition to bring her home & continue the recovery phase.  This site will assisted them in their needs as they fight to get Katie back on her feet climbing those Montana mountains again!!
