KATHY'S ROAD TO RECOVERY

Dear Friends and Family,
After 25 years at Sloan Kettering, Kathy retired at the end of December and escaped to her Ft Meyers condo after Christmas. On January 28 she went on a preplanned vacation to Cancun. Shortly after her February 11 return flight to Fort Lauderdale, she was admitted to the Broward Medical Center. Although we do not have a concrete timeline about how or exactly when the situation developed, we do know that she was taken to the Medical Center via ambulance from the airport and it was assessed that she suffered a brain aneurysm. She underwent two separate brain surgeries over those first few days. She was in ICU and ICU stepdown through March 3rd.
On March 9th, Kathy was released from Broward Medical and is now at Lawnwood Rehabilitation Center in Forth Pierce, Florida where she is undergoing extensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy 3 – 4 hours a day. Kathy is aware of what is going on and understands that while the doctors don’t know how long it will take for her brain to heal– they are confident that her speech and mobility will continue to improve. She has made excellent progress thus far but has a long road ahead of her.
If you know Kathy, you know that she is very independent and self-sufficient. She is a proud and private person but many of you have reached out and asked for specific ways to show your support during this tough time so we have set up this Go Fund Me page for those who would like to contribute financially. Any funds raised on this page will be put toward medical expenses. Of course, more than anything else, we ask for your continued prayers for Kathy as she continues this challenging journey. We know she can do it!
Please pray for her son, Brendan also. He has been a rock through all of this. This is a difficult time but Kathy will take it one day at a time. We feel God’s grace…that Kathy still has her sense of humor and edge have provided moments of hope and levity.
