Katelynn Wilson (Waldner)

At Katelynn’s 20 week ultrasound, she found out that the baby she is carrying has a heart defect known as Hypo-plastic left heart syndrome. (HLHS). In the shortest definition possible, it’s basically where the left side of his heart did not develop which is causing lack of blood flow through the heart and body. 

If we are lucky, Katelynn will be able to deliver baby boy here in Sioux Falls, but if things change or get worse, we will travel to Ann Harbor, Michigan prior to her due date and baby will be born there.

He will need a series of 3 surgeries:  

The first open heart surgery happens 3-5 days after birth. Depending on how fast he is recovering, we will more than likely spend about 3 weeks in Michigan. His second open heart surgery will be around 4-6 months old. Also in Michigan. Third surgery will depend on progress, but likely to be between the ages of 3&4. Any surgeries after that will also depend on how he is doing in the future.

The cardiologist has told us that between the age of 16-20, he will need a heart transplant. 

This has definitely been a very difficult time for all of us. Watching my baby go through this with her baby is so heart breaking. 

I am doing this fundraiser because Katelynn obviously is not able to travel to Michigan alone. She will need as much support as possible. Insurance will cover her flight there and everything for baby, but will not cover a place for the rest of us to stay, food, gas, etc. 

We are grateful for any help that we are we are able to receive at this time. ❤️
