The earthquake that recently devasted parts of Pakistan hit hardest around Mirpur and the Jatlan Region, where my wife grew up. We were heartbroken when we heard stories of what had happened to family, friends and neighbours. Bloodied bodies had been pulled from the rubble, whole blocks destroyed and stories of children the same age as my son cruelly taken from this world.
Many people from the area have family abroad like myself, and we all pull together in times of need to help, with a little family spirit, homes will get rebuilt, businessesreopenedand livestockreplaced. But all this community spirit means nothing if we can’t help those who aren’t fortunate enough and don’t have family to call upon to help.
More than 20 have been reported dead, hundreds have been injured or displaced, many of whom don’t have a family or safety net to rely on in their time of need. We want to travel to some of the worst-hit areas and personally help out with the earthquake relief as a small gesture that we’re not only thinking of them in their time of need but actively helping them.
Myself (Omer) and Satnam run Cleartwo, an IT and Marketing Company were due to visit Pakistan this October. However after we saw the shocking situation on the news, we’ve changed the nature of our plans.
We now intend to travel to the Jatlan Region to assist those affected by providing clean clothes, beds, medical aid and basic necessities such as food and water as many of the wells have collapsed, or anything they need the most.
