Hello! My name is Aaron and this past year I decided to rescue a pup from S.A.D. Rescue here in Missouri. I had wanted to get a dog and the time felt right so I serendipidously visited an adoption event where I met Karlee. I knew she was the dog I wanted right away. So that was that and I got everything in order and adopted her!
She is an active little girl and loves to play tug of war and run around in the snow. We have had so much fun together. Recently, however, I noticed that she started having a little gimp in her step. She was limping occasionally and I noticed that her back right knee joint appeared a little funny.
I took her into the vet to see what the problem was. At first they told me that it may just be an injury that it might get better over time. I watched for about a month but she still continued to hobble. I took her back in and they took a closer look. They discovered that she has a medial patella luxation in her knee. This basically means that her knee cap slips out of place causing pain and discomfort. This condition has four stages and my poor girl has already progressed to a grade III. If she moves to a grade IV then her knee cap will stay out of place and won't come back unless fixed surgically.
My vet told me that since she is still a young girl, surgery is the best option so that Karlee can run and play and not worry about her poor leg. The surgery deepens the groove in her knee for her knee cap so that it does not slip anymore.
The problem for me is that I cannot really afford the surgery. I have been able to pay for all of Karlee's expenses so far and even spoil her a little bit. But as a student, I do not currently have the means to pay for something this big. My hope is that some people like you would want to help us out. Karlee is my baby and I want the best for her but I cannot seem to do that on my own right now. Please consider helping me and Karlee so that she can be a healthy little girl again and run and play to her heart's content.
