Dearest Friends,
Twenty-three years ago I had a Giant cell bone tumor in my left humerus that caused a pathological fracture. Although the tumor was benign, it had eaten the head and partial shaft of the humerus and most of the rotator cuff. Luckily for me it wasn't malignant, they would have had to amputate it! The Orthopedic Oncologist at UCSF rebuilt my arm with two titanium rods and acrylic cement (see the photo of the X-Ray), and told me that in the future I would need shoulder replacement surgery.
Well the future has arrived. On Oct. 26, I woke up to my left shoulder in excruciating pain, almost as bad as the initial break. After 2 trips to the ER and consultations with two doctors, I was told I needed a Revision Reverse total Shoulder Replacement. I was taken off work indefinitely. I have to ice it throughout the day and keep it in a sling.
I tried to return to work three separate times, but I just couldn't work with the pain I am in. I have ran into obstacle after obstacle...late SDI payments, feuding doctors over who will fill out work notes and SDI paperwork, miscommunications between me and my doctors' offices, you name it. In the meantime I cannot drive for Uber or Lyft, nor work at Target on the side as I had been for the previous 6 months to get by. SDI won’t even cover half of my income. So...here I am. Rent for January has not been paid, tomorrow February is due. To top things off, my surgery has been postponed two weeks because my BP was high.
Friends, If you know me well, you know that I have a hard time asking for help, but I need your help. Even if it’s $1, I would appreciate it. My rent and car payment alone is $1500/month. I am considering giving up the car, and I have downsized all my spending to the bare minimum. I will not receive an SDI check for Dec-Jan for another three weeks as my claim was delayed due to the holidays and both doctors being on vacation to sign my re-certifications. Your donation will pay for my rent, car payment, groceries, and bills, not to mention peace of mind so I can heal in peace after the surgery. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help.
