Dearest Friends, Family and Those of You We May Not Know, but Appreciate All The Same...

After a long and arduous battle with COPD/Emphysema, our beautiful and courageous Mom, Karen Kay Anderson DeLeon, has spent the last week on life support in the ICU and is in grave condition. She has been functioning on just 16% lung function for quite some time now and her frail body is unfortunately no longer able to sustain her.

Although we are understandably heartbroken that our time together on Earth is approaching it's end, we stand in awe of her strength and are so proud of the amazing human being she is. We have so many wonderful, hilarious and heart warming memories of her. Her legacy lives on in us; her children, beloved grandbabies and Makena (her companion and therapy dog, that she just adored, these past months).

This campaign is difficult for us to send out. We wish that financial matters weren't even a consideration at this difficult time. Mom taught us to be practical though and to also not let pride interfere with what is necessary. There are times in life where each of us needs help beyond our capabilities and for us that time has come to rely on the good graces and generosity of family, friends and even the kindness of strangers. We are trying to remember that there is no shame in asking for help under these circumstances.

Although we are realistic and understand that it's not likely we will earn enough to cover the extensive medical costs associated with a week or more in the ICU, it is our hope that we can lessen the burden as much as possible and have enough to help with her final expenses. One of her most fervent wishes was that her ashes be brought back to Colorado and spread on Mt. Garfield. Our mother didn't live an extravagant lifestyle and doesn't want any grand gestures or expensive memorials. So we would like to be able to at least honor this wish for a woman who did without more often than not and never complained.

We can't express our deep, deep gratitude enough for all the love and support that have been offered to us during this very difficult time. We are blessed to have so many people who love and care for our beloved mother.

One of her very favorite things to do was to laugh. She had a great one and it was infectious. Although these campaigns are created to ultimately receive financial assistance, we also wanted to offer those who loved Mom the opportunity to share their fondest memory/ies of her. We know that she would say, "Laughter is the best medicine!" It would be the best kind of therapy we can think of.

So please, share this link and comment with your memories, even if you are unable to contribute financially. For those that are able to contribute, know that we are forever grateful for your generosity!

With Love and Gratitude,
