My beloved partner Karen Smith recently had some very unexpected news that we need to act quickly on. She is diagnosed with a type of cancer in her abdomen requiring her to get a Radical Open Incision Hysterectomy that will remove 4 organs including nearby lymph nodes. This is the most invasive form of this surgery in the way the procedure is being done ( non-laparoscopically) and the number of organs being taken.
The recovery time for this type of procedure is 6-12 months to be completely back to "normal" with her being able to return to work in 6-8 weeks.
Karen is a long time (4+ years) employee of a children's tutoring and works 32 hours a week managing the business. Her employer does not pay for her healthcare, give paid time off, or any assistance with this procedure.
Karen is also a straight-A student pursuing her Master's degree in Psychology (MFT) and must unexpectedly take next quarter off.
We are lucky to have detected this now through routine testing and can quickly act. The downside is we must do this now leaving no time for planning and saving.
Her Oncologist has her scheduled for surgery this Monday, December 17th, 3 days from now.
The funds we are raising will go to cover the following things.
-Helping pay her rent for January and February.
-Paying health care premiums
-Medical expenses and hospitalization
-Bills / utilities
-Groceries
The amount I am raising for her is calculated to be the minimum needed to make this work when the processing fee from gofundme is taken into account. Twice as much would make things much smoother with all the medical billing.
