Karen Walsh Marhold Scholarship Fund

Karen Walsh Marhold was, to put it simply, a WARRIOR! She was also an inspiration to many.  She combined grace, knowledge, strength, and an unwavering belief in her Catholic faith to help her battle Stage IV breast cancer for more than five years.  She did so for one reason; ok...maybe three reasons:  John, Thomas, and Lauren.  She endured test after test, signed up for clinical trial after clinical trial.  She was poked too many times to count.  She was biopsied repeatedly, all to achieve one goal:  To create a legacy of lasting memories with her children for as long as physically possible.

Although her children were very young when she was diagnosed, Karen wanted to make sure her children knew exactly  who their mother was long after she was gone.  Karen believed that Knowledge is Power.  She researched her disease tirelessly.  She knew of every new treatment and clinical trial that was available to her, sometimes even surprising her oncologists.  I was in awe of her 'warrior spirit' on many occasions.  

Above all, Karen truly believed in her Catholic faith.  She believed that God has a plan for everyone.   We may not understand all the twists and turns of life, but Karen knew that the same God who created us, loves us always.  Karen knew that God's personal promise to us is one of extreme hope and potential.  Karen strongly believed that we live each day with a sense of hope and assurance, and that whatever comes our way has passed through God's omnipotent, loving hands.
