Karen Kim Pham is a beautiful 38 year old single mother of 7 year old Evan, 8 year old Emma, and 14 year old Ethan. In October 2015, Karen was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. She valiantly went through radiation, had part of her colon removed which left her with a colostomy bag, and underwent chemotherapy. Karen thought she had it beat but her joy was short lived when in July 2016 she had severe abdominal pain and repeat CAT scans showed that the cancer had returned and spread to her liver, spleen, diaphragm, abdominal area, and lungs. Karen was told that her cancer was terminal and was given a few months to live. Karen refused to give up as she sought out a new team of physicians and went through chemotherapy, surgery and multiple tangential complications related to her illness.
Unfortunately, after a long and courageous fight the cancer overwhelmed Karen’s body and in late November of 2016, Karen’s doctors told her that nothing else could be done. Karen, however, was able to partly keep her promise to her children as she went home with the help of hospice to spend her last Thanksgiving with her three children and loving family. Karen passed peacefully surrounded by her parents, brothers and sisters, and held her children’s hands as she passed on November 26, 2016.
Ethan, Emma, and Evan will be raised by their grandparents and supported by their aunts and uncles. All proceeds received through this GoFundMe campaign will directly help Karen’s three beautiful children with their daily life expenses as they move forward in 2017 without the love, guidance, and compassion of their beautiful mother.
