IN LOVING MEMORY OF KADY

After spending the summer in Chicago with her grandparents, Kady and her brother were told that they were going to spend the upcoming school year in Chicago due to her mother not being able to care for them. Over the summer Kady mentioned a bump that was on the back of her leg that began to grow bigger over time. An Ultrasound was done of the test but doctors wanted to get more testing done to make sure it was not a tumor. After an biopsy was performed shortly after, it was confirmed that it was a malignant tumor. After weeks of MRI’s and Biopsy’s, Kady was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (soft tissue cancer in her calf muscle) It came as a shock since Kady never shown any signs of discomfort or pain. She’s been a happy 8 year old playing, laughing and living her best life! Her tumor is localized only in her leg after being tested to make sure it did not spread to her lymph nodes and bone marrow. Kady underwent the removal of her ovary due to the chance of her losing fertility after chemotherapy. The freezing of her tissue has been done, when she is ready to embark on the journey of motherhood later down the line. A port has been inserted into her chest so she can receive her chemotherapy treatments in hopes that it will shrink the tumor so that no surgery is needed. Kady will have to undergo at least 48 weeks of chemo and spend many overnights at the hospital. As a family we have been rotating taking time off of work to either help with Kady’s brother (making sure he is get to and coming from school safely) or attending one of many appointments for Kady. The Financial burden is SO REAL and has started to become an obstacle. Out-of-pocket and travel expenses, Co-Insurance, Deductibles, and prescription costs all add up and Kady’s grandparents financial resources are limited. Our family has a long road ahead and we’re hoping the funds will help alleviate some of the expenses that come with caring for a child with cancer.
