Kacy's medical debt

Donation protected
5 years ago I battled cancer and won. I'm now struggling under the weight of medical bills too high to pay year after year. This year we got slammed with a huge bill for regular diagnostics- stuff my insurance no longer covers.

I have taken every angle I can, from calling my insurance to filling out financial aid documents, and even calling my district representative. In the end, I make too much for financial aid, there is no regulation what health insurance covers, and my representative verified that it is totally legal for hospitals and insurance to do this.

My only option is to pay up. Well, we don't have the money.

I am asking for your assistance to pay off this medical debt.

FAQ:

How much do I owe?

The total I'm asking for is 2710, which will cover this summer's charges.  Any funds raised above that amount will be put towards the 2k I already owe and had to take a loan out for.

If, somehow, we raise the 2710, and the 2000 additional to pay off my total current medical debt, any and all funds above that will go into a medical savings account for emergencies.

So, technically, I owe 4710 but I'm making payments on some of that.

When is it due?

As of my last statement,  the 2710 is due October 13th. However, I just sent in a letter appealing the hospital's decision to deny me financial aid. They've put a hold on my account, but I'm not sure for how long. Probably 30 days.  I will verify this on Monday via phone call to the hospital's billing department.

What did I get done?

Diagnostic testing, as part of my regular cancer checkups. Lab work, doctor visits, vaccines, and an echocardiogram. I was scheduled for additional testing (a CT scan with full contrast) but cancelled it all when I saw that my insurance was not covering any of it. My oncologist is as frustrated as I am, because now I cant afford to see him.

We make too much for financial aid?

Yes. The cutoff for financial aid is 38k/yr gross income (before taxes, etc). Steve and I make about 40k, give or take.

What can you do?

Anything helps. Some folks, like Diane and Dan Hayes have already helped, unsolicited, and for that I am grateful. If you are able to put even 5 dollars towards helping us out, we appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to consider assisting Steve and I as we navigate chronic illness within the US healthcare system.

Thank you.
