About Kiddo Active Therapy:

When our clinic opened its doors we had no idea how quickly it would grow, how supportive the community would be, or how much demand there would be for the services we provide. Kiddo Active is a new clinic in the West Island of Montreal that offers occupational therapy services to families with children aged 0-18 years. Our process begins with an evaluation where we assess the individual needs of each child and their parents to develop a treatment plan. During our sessions we use play based-learning with the children and teach the parents about what their child is doing and how they can follow through at home. By using equipment like swings, ramps, and trampolines we create opportunities for children to learn through sensory-motor movement and play. Providing a safe, supportive space and an appropriate level of challenge is how children with sensory-motor difficulties can start to explore their senses and the environment in a whole new way.

We are happy to announce that our team of occupational therapists has not only grown in number but is also transitioning to a multi-disciplinary approach with the inclusion of a pediatric focused physiotherapist and nutritionist. Our dream is to be able to offer everything a family needs in order to help understand and treat the challenges their child is facing. To do this we hope to be able to build out our clinic in order to better use the space with specialized equipment; offering a wider range of sensory-motor opportunities to the children. By meeting our goal, our team will be better equipped to work together with families and children.

What Do We Need?
Passion, knowledge, and a big open space can only go so far. While the children we treat love the gym space we have available, it is not being used to its full potential due to some structural choices made by previous tenants. Because the safety of our clients is our number one priority we will need to consult with qualified engineers and contractors to correctly remove a partial wall, and properly set up our therapeutic equipment. Being able to maximize the space available for a sensory-motor gym will directly impact the efficiency and number of services we are able to offer, but it is difficult to secure the sort of loan we need when the present state of our gym does not impede our capacity to do business. With the space and our ideas we have the potential to build a sensory-motor gym that would be unique to the West-Island of Montreal. We need your help to reach our goal of making it exciting for our kids to develop and learn.

We need:
- $25,000 – The minimum. This will allow us to hire an engineer to evaluate the structure and wall and to design a system to safely suspend therapeutic swings; to purchase or build a custom metal structure to use with swings and movement equipment; and to hire a contractor who will tear down the dividing wall and make repairs, build and install the metal structure, and properly install a traverse climbing wall.

- $40,000 – The ideal. This will also allow us to purchase and install a specialized adapted climbing wall and monkey bars; to have our contractor build a custom platform with integrated stairs and scooter board ramp; to purchase a ball pit; to purchase safety mats and new therapeutic swings; purchase ladders and climbing equipment; purchase a balance beam course and mats; buy the bean bags and safety mats necessary for jumping from the platform; and to purchase specialized floor equipment.

- $50,000 – The dream. This will also allow us to have the engineer to evaluate the structure for a zipline and climbing rope; purchase a zipline; have the contractor build the necessary wall supports and install the zipline; do safety checks to purchase a slack line; change the halogen lighting for energy efficient and silent LED lighting that will not bother sensitive hearing; put in scooter board friendly floors; purchase a tricycle; construct custom storage for new equipment and swings; and purchase adjustable height tables and chairs for the gym.

Our Team:
Stephanie S began working in this location 3 years ago as part of a different therapy company to build a pediatric occupational therapy program. When the company announced it was closing she leaped at the chance to take over the location. She saw the potential in this amazing space to establish a pediatric specific clinic to provide an important and unique service to Montreal families. In the short time that Kiddo Active Therapy has been open, Stephanie has worked to expand her team to include two fantastic occupational therapists with the same energy and passion, Stephanie R and Marie-Elaine. We have also added a physiotherapist, Melanie, and a nutritionist, Naureen, to the team, so that we can offer a full range of services to the families that we serve. Using fun and games to engage children and their families in therapeutic activities is what the team is about, and we are looking forward to putting all of our ideas into place. We are already open and helping families, and need your support to build the sensory-motor gym that we and the children dream of.

We are offering some great perks for every donation level. No donation is too small, we appreciate all levels of support. Even 5$ will go a long way towards purchasing the material necessary for our project.

Thank you so much for reading this far and for considering our campaign. If you or anyone you know has a child with autism, ADD/ADHD, dyspraxia/developmental coordination disorder, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder, and other motor and developmental delays the our clinic may be a great fit and we encourage you to reach out to us or come and visit.
