“My Authentic Self”: Cris’ Top Surgery Fund
Donation protected
Peace fam,
My name is Amara and I am creating this fundraiser to support my friend Cris Izaguirre cover top surgery and post-op recovery costs. I know Cris for the past 4 years through the urban farming community and have the pleasure of working alongside him at KCC Urban Farm.
As we settle into the transformations of the new year, we are calling on you to support life transitions for our dear friend Cris.
Cris is a farmer, mentor and educator, cultivating safer spaces for QTBIPOC to (re)connect with land and farming as sacred practices for liberation.
Cris has dedicated his life in service to his community in LGBTQ rights organizations including Lambda Legal, El/La Para Translatinas and Community United Against Violence (CUAV). He is currently the farm manager at KCC Urban Farm where he works teaching students from seed to harvest through a social justice lens. As a co-founder of Interlocking Roots, Cris is helping to create safer spaces for QTBIPOC farmers, chefs, educators, organizers and earth stewards to address the intersections between race, gender and sexuality in our food justice work. Cris teaches us that earth stewardship involves taking care of the wellbeing of our whole (eco)community, which includes his students, the pollinators, microorganisms in the soil and all our relations. Through the several roles that he navigates, Cris maintains a steadfast commitment to cultivating our collective liberation rooted in solidarity and reciprocity.
This winter will bring a new exciting and yet difficult journey for Cris who will be undergoing gender affirming surgery at the end of January.
Although Cris is out here constantly supporting community, undergoing invasive surgery requires that Cris recovers with the support of community who can show care in many ways. Navigating the medical industrial complex is stressful enough, so we are pulling together to make sure that Cris is well taken care of and has a smooth recovery. Everyone deserves medical care with dignity and to heal without worry which requires us to show up to care for each other. Join us in showering Cris with love and well wishes for this new phase in life.
Funds will help Cris pay for surgery and hospitalization fees that insurance will not cover in addition to post-op care. Your $$$ support will provide Cris with nutritious and comforting food to promote smooth healing after surgery, transportation to doctor's visits, and herbal medicine made by QTPOC herbalists.
Cris will be direct beneficiary of the funds and use the donations as follows:
Surgery and hospitalization fees - $6,000
Food for a month (3 meals x day) - $1,300
Transportation to doctor appointments (about $32, estimating 5 roundtrip rides) - $180
Herbal Care (includes a 90 min herbal consultation and herbal prescription) - $380
Misc. Supplies for recovery (pillows, bandages, etc) - $140
Total: $8,000
Feel free to donate through Venmo as well - @cris-izaguirre
Thank you all so much for your support <3
