Refugee Crisis
I am returning to Greece to assist with this Global Humanitarian Crisis!!! Greece's capacity to respond to this humanitarian crisis is at breaking point. Refugees ( women , men and children )are living in make shift tents with little or no food and horrific unsanitary conditions at the Greece-Macedonia border. At the port of Pireaus, Athens, they sleep on the floor of the passenger’s terminals out in the cold and the rain with no idea of what will occur next. The recent EU -Turkey deal has done nothing except to increase their uncertainty.
The majority of people are fleeing violence and conflict. They have become trapped in Greece because instead of supporting refugees, the rest of Europe is shutting its borders without offering any real alternatives.
Greece can’t cope on its own. Asylum in Greece, already stretched by the sheer number of people stranded, is not a realistic option for many. While the EU and the world presents a more realistic solution to this crisis these deparate individuals require our support.
I am again returning to Greece hoping to bring funds will go towards blankets, food, clothing and whatever the immediate needs are at the time. The difference this makes while volunteering is amazing as without hesitation needs are dealt without a delay. What does this do for the refugees, it provides for them with what we take for granted. The control to attain basic needs such as food, clothing, a pack sack to carry their belongings etc. Trust me, these funds will be used in the most responsible manner. I would be so grateful if I could reach my goal amount . Peace, support and relief is the experience we can provide together as these refugee families arrive after a horrific journey . They arrive with nothing but hope!
