When therapy wasn’t helping Mia, Ella was. When Mia would have a panic attack, Ella emotionally supported Mia by laying on her chest, calming her down and working her through her panic and anxiety. The two were inseparable.  Ella never spent a night away from sleeping at Mia’s head. She could sense when anxiety was taking over Mia and would glue herself to her until the anxiety and panic passed.  Ella has done so much for Mia in the 2 years they have spent together.

On Thursday, 11/15/18, Ella escaped from the yard after the landscapers visited.  She was hit by a car on Talcott and the driver ran off.  Plenty of amazing people stopped, in the freezing rain, and stayed with her until she was found.  She was transported to the ER and unfortunately is suffering from spinal cord damage and neurological trauma. Mia is a mess.  Absolutely devastated.  Today she is being transported to a specialty vet where a neurologist will treat her and determine the extent of the injury.

As as a parent, my heart breaks for her.  The thought of Mia losing the dog that got her through a trauma, as well through her mother’s 6 months in a hospital program following the birth of her baby brother breaks my heart.  Ella is not only Mia’s baby, but her rock.

The vet vet bills are unbelievable. After multiple amazing people offering to help, we decided to create this page.  The estimated cost to save and rehabilitate Ella is extreme. If you are able to help Ella, Mia and her family would greatly appreciate it.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 4 weeks since the accident. It’s felt like a lot longer. Miss Ella will be headed into surgery once again on Monday, December 17 for a full amputation of her left arm. Her injuries to that part of her body have left her with a limb that lacks all function and sensation. She has no response to stimuli, pain or touch, and cannot move anything from her shoulder down. As a result, her leg drags on the ground and has become torn up and infected. We have made the hard decision to send her back into surgery to remove her arm. We’re all hopeful she’ll make a full recovery and liver her life as a 3 legged dog. If you have extra time on Monday, please send some good vibes!

Mia has slept next to Ella every night since she’s been home. If that’s not true love, I don’t know what is. ❤️. And, yes, she’s also sleeping on a dog bed

Ella’s attitude is great. She’s a fiesty little dog that wants to play, be crazy and cuddle with her people. Unfortunately because of her injuries, she is unable to do all these things. Mia is having a rough time accepting that her buddy is not only hurt, but very well may never be the same. This is a lot for a ten year old to deal with. There have been lots of tears, rough nights, and internalizing grief, which obviously we don’t want her to do. The accident was hard enough, but this current situation seems to be much harder on us as a family. It’s so hard to see someone you love struggle and not be themselves. We’re hopeful that she’ll make progress, but it’s a long road and very expensive. To date, we’ve spent over $18,000 on medical bills, medical boarding, physical therapy, braves for her legs, medications- you band it, we’ve had to spend money on it. Mia lost her last dog to a freak accident, and as a parent I cannot let her lose this dog as well. The last one absolutely crushed her- I cannot imagine what this one would do to her. And once again, we’re asking for your help. Anything you could donate would be a blessing. No amount is too small. That you all for your support.

2 weeks and 3 days after being hit so badly we nearly put her down due to spinal cord damage our girl is doing GREAT! This is a perfect example of what the power of prayer, positive thinking, and the support of family and friends can do. These two girls are so strong. Thank you all for everything ❤️ I’m one lucky mom to have so many people care about my daughter and her best friend. Today they were playing tug of war like old times. I cannot put into words exactly how great that was to witness. The look of pure happiness on both their faces. It was so beautiful. Thank you all for helping us make that happen. We love you all for it.
