A few years ago, a group of friends stumbled upon the Appalachian Trail, a hiking trail traveling from Georgia to Maine. They spent a night on the trail, meeting a few "thru hikers", and here a new passion for backpacking and the outdoors was born.
After years of trial and (a lot) of error, Will(19) and Luke(18) are ready to attempt their own "thru hike" but not on the Appalachian Trail; they are venturing out west to the longer, 2650 mile, Pacific Crest Trail, which travels from Mexico to Canada. "It has always been a dream of ours to attempt a thru hike, and we can't wait any longer". With only 100 days between college semesters it is a very ambitious goal, they must average 27 miles a day to complete the trail in time. "Most people doubt our abilities, but we've done the research, we know it's possible. We have 500+ miles under our belt and have been training very hard".
Between lightwieght backpacking gear, plane tickets, and a 5000 calorie/day diet, this trip will be expensive, the average thru hiker spends $4000-$6000 total. This is where we ask you to help make this journey possible. Our goal is to raise $1 for every mile we hike. Any amount exceeding our mileage will be donated to EcoTrust Charity, "a catalyst for radical, practical change". You can check them out at ecotrust.org.
All donations will be greatly appreciated, and we will try to thank each person individually, however it could be a challenge from the trail. Our start date is May 10th and we plan to finish August 16th, we will stop accepting donations when our journey is complete.
This will be the adventure of a lifetime, we are turning a dream to reality, and fighting to save this beautiful planet, one mile at a time! So please, be a part of this dream, anything helps!
