Chris, a wonderful human, helped me in my times of depression, showing me that I had strength physically and mentally. He taught me that I was worthy and valid of my own love, when I couldn't see this for myself. A couple weeks ago I got a call from across the country that Chris had taken his own life. This person that was so full-heartedly there for me in ways that he won't ever know, took his own life. It's important to me that I honor Chris and what he meant to me. I am not a runner, but I have decided to run a marathon in honor of Chris. He taught me that we can persevere as long as our mind is in it. With dedication and Chris in my heart, I plan to run every step with his soul being honored, a truly dedicated person that showed happiness and love to everyone he encountered. I run not only for me, but for Chris. To show people it's necessary to talk about mental illnesses no matter how "strong" we appear on the outside, depression is a demon that strikes with no preference. The money raised will go to the Movember fund, an organization that raises awareness for men's health issues like mental illness and suicide . Thank you Chris for being the person that you were in my life, you will be running with me.
