Dear family, friends, and kind strangers who have stumbled upon this,
Yesterday, I rang my friend Kylie Leplaw to ask how she and her husband Justin are doing and discovered that they were everything but fine.
This year Justin experienced a deterioration in health that has changed the lives of him and his wife severly. What was thought to be an underperforming liver resulted in the diagnosis pancreatic cancer.
On 11th October 2016 Sydney’s St. Vincent’s Hospital surgeons performed a 7 hour Whipple procedure on Justin during which parts of his pancreas, bowel and liver were removed. At this moment Justin is still in recovery.
As a cancer survivor myself, I know how expensive and difficult it can be. Even though the medical aspects are covered, the bills still keep coming and the mortgage has to be paid. Kylie has her own business, but desperately needs to constantly be by Justin's side to give him the love and support he needs, therefor there is no money coming in.
After speaking to Kylie and losing my own mother to pancreatic cancer, I felt that I needed to do something to help. As someone who has worked on several breast cancer fundraising projects in the past, I decided to make use of my experience and start this initiative, hoping to be able to take some weight off of Justin and Kylie's shoulders.
