It’s 2018, and 40,000 girls become child brides every day in all corners of the world from Sudan to the USA.
Many of you may have heard the horrific case of Noura Hussein, the 19 year old Sudanese girl who recently faced the death penalty. For those unfamiliar, Noura was 15 years old when her family married her off to a man over twice her age. She was found guilty of killing her husband after he repeatedly raped her and was subsequently sentenced to death by hanging. Her legal team appealed and with international pressure, her charge was reduced to manslaughter with an $18k penalty.
Her story does not end there. We are still fighting for her charges to be reduced to self defense, the fine to be eliminated, and for her to be safe and free to pursue her dream of attending law school.
All proceeds of this fundraiser will go to The SEEMA Center, a non profit that is helping Noura and other child bride survivors like her, to reclaim their lives and rebuild their futures.
$125 helps a child to escape forced marriage and houses her safely for a year, $1500 supports her housing for an entire year. Your support for Noura and other child brides like her is a step towards supporting girls worldwide and putting an end to these issues in our lifetime.
The SEEMA Center for The Protection of Women and Child Rights is a non-profit organization established in 2008. It provides a complete package of services to victims/survivors of gender based violence including legal aid, health services, psychotherapy and social support.
SEEMA is among the organizations supporting Sudanese teenager Noura Hussein and countless other girls facing gender based violence and child marriage in Sudan - despite facing harassment from abusers and pressure from all sides. Please fund their incredibly important work.
