Julie's Chemotherapy

Donation protected
Julie Mosley is a mom, daughter, sister, and loving friend.  She is 49 and was diagnosed with cancer when she was 48 years old. She is a high school English teacher at Franklin Central. She has continued to work as much as she is able to. Here is her story:

In September 2016, my mom had pain in her shoulder. She decided to stay home that day and go see a doctor. After a CT scan, the doctor said they had noticed lesions on her liver that seem to be cancerous. On October 18, the doctor diagnosed my mom with stage 4 colon cancer that had metastasized to her liver. During this time, we also found out that she is not a candidate for surgery or a transplant. As you can probably imagine, this is the worst news my family has ever received. One week later, my mom began chemotherapy. During this chemotherapy, she sat in a chair for 4-6 hours once every two weeks. The chemo worked well, but it had some pretty crappy side effects. My mom had terrible neuropathy, fatigue, and nausea. Not long after, the doctor noticed a small lump in her breast. She was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. After about 7 months, the chemo became too much for my mom to handle and it stopped working. In June, they found a new tumor in her liver. Her oncologist turned to plan B. This included a new chemo on the same cycle plan. The side effects for this chemo were not supposed to be as bad; however, her body did not do well on this chemo. On the first day of school, my mom passed out and had a mini seizure from EXTREMELY low blood pressure. She spent a couple days in the hospital, and then finally made it home. She has been off of chemo for about 5-6 weeks now. The doctors new plan was going to be internal radiation, where they go into her liver and target each tumor with radiation. Today, we found out that plan was denied by insurance. My mom needs to receive treatment, so I do not want to wait.

My mom is going to discuss an appeal with her oncologist. If the treatment is approved by insurace, all money raised will go to further treatment plans.

Thank you for your kindness, love, and support. My mom means the world to me. She is an amazing person.
