Fight for Julia

Donation protected
Julia may only be a young 18 month old toddler, but already has a larger than life personality! She is an easy-going, fiercy funny girl who loves to grunt out a good belly laugh, play with her 2 older brothers Jack and James, and snuggle up with her doggie Junior.

Julia's parents, Chris and Jessica, had some concerns regarding a lazy right eye starting around 3 months of age. It had started to drift outward more and more with a noticable difference at her 15 month appointment in August. Her left eye had now begun to drift as well and Julia's pediatrician assured them not to worry as she was developmentally on track and there were no other issues at that time. It took almost 2 months to get Julia into an eye appointment at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. On October 14th, Julia was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma of both eyes.

Retinoblastoma is a rare eye cancer that mostly affects children. There are only about 275 cases in the United States and unfortunately there are no treatment options in the Milwaukee area that could save her life. Chris and Jessica were told they had two options of locations where they could seek care in order to provide Julia with treatment. Children's Hospital of Wisconsin quickly communicated with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the team working with Dr. David Abramson advised the family to take the next flight out to New York to finish her work-up and immediately begin treatment.

The plan is to receive intra-arterial chemotherapy in hopes to retain any vision in either eye and save her life. They will need to fly between Wisconsin and New York every few weeks for the medication that is not covered by insurance.

Chris and Jessica are in need of donations to help with travel expenses, lodging, medication coverage, occupational therapy, and anything else related to Julia's medical care.

Jessica and I have known each other since 2002 and has always held a special place in my heart. She is one of those people that no matter how long the time has been in between, you pick up again right where you left off.

Please consider helping fight for Julia's life. She has so much life to live and this treatment option will give her the best chances to do so.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated. Whether you are able to donate or not, please keep the Malicki family in your thoughts and prayers as they start their new journey.
