Represent USA in Grand Prix Marcinelle
Please help me raise funds to represent the USA Junior Judo National Team in the 18th annual International GRAND PRIX Marcinelle on May 31, 2014 in Marcinelle, France.
I have been actively practicing and competing in judo with Hawaii Tenri Judo Club for the last five and half years. I am currently rank #1 in the -52kg and #4 in the -47kg on the USA junior national roster. My ultimate goal is to be able to qualify for the future USA Olympic Judo Team.
I recently competed in the 2014 USA Judo Youth & Scholastic Nationals in Irving, Texas and won GOLD in the Female Intermediate 2 -52Kg division. Winning 1st in this competition has earned me a spot on the USA Junior Judo National Team and the opportunity to represent the USA in the upcoming international event:
International Grand Prix Marcinelle
May 31, 2014
The chance to compete on an international level is an ideal opportunity for me because it will allow me to grow as an athlete and will be beneficial towards my journey of ultimately making the Olympic team.
Off the mat, I practice and dance hula in the competition class at Halau Na Mamo O Puuanahulu. I am the oldest of three and I currently attend middle school. I am on the track team, in student government and play the tenor saxophone in my school's band and Honor band. I am also part of the Club Mid leadership team at my YMCA.
Unfortunately, there is little financial support for aspiring Judo athletes in the U.S and any contribution from you would be greatly appreciated as I try to accomplish my goals. Thank you and Mahalo for all your support!!

The results are in. It was a long day. But it was all worth the trip.
Charlize had two matches in her division and WON both matches and got the GOLD. She also competed in the U15 Cadet category, a division abover her own with girls 1-2 years older. There were 12 girls in this division and she got into the finals and placed 4th to get the BRONZE by winning 3 matches and losing 2. She worked her butt off and played her heart out.
Today was a GOOD day!!
She will be always #1 in our hearts!!
There were 4 judokas representing USA Judo, 3 were from Hawaii and 1 from Florida and they all played AWESOME and represented USA very well!! So proud of these kids' determination and passion for their sport!!!
3 Gold - Charlize (HI), Brie Bella (HI) and Javier Lacaba (FL)
1 Silver - Brayden Bella (HI)
1 Bronze - Charlize (HI)
We did it!! We reached our goal and some!!
A great big MAHALO and ALOHA to all of Charlize's supporters!! This would not have been possible if it wasn't for each and everyone of you who BELIEVE in her!!!
We are so very grateful and words cannot express how much we are THANKFUL for all our AWESOME family and friends!!
GOD is GOOD!! ALWAYS GOOD!!
Today we embark on our journey to Europe. It'll take us 24+ hours to get there. This is all worth it.. It's a risk that we took and we are glad we did!! We never ever thought that we could do this, but with God's will and our faith, we did it!! Perseverance and determination keep us going!!
With LOVE and ALOHA,
Clifford, Jessica, Charlize, Bailey and Lincoln
The days are winding down and we are still actively campaigning for Charlize's journey.
This week Charlize starts her 6 day training with her club for the Junior Nationals that will take place here in Hawaii on July 4-5 at the Blaisdell Arena. It's been 10 years since this competition was staged here and we are very fortunate to have it return.
Charlize had another local judo competition on Sunday. We moved her up a division again and this time she had 4 hard matches. She won 3 out of her 4 matches and almost got the wind knocked out of her, but she still put in 100%. She placed 2nd and we are SO very PROUD of her!! Charlize learned a valuable lesson that winning isn't everything and it's not the only thing..
Please KOKUA and continue to share Charlize's journey and we are confident that we can reach our goal by the end of the week!!

We reached 50% of our goal and we are confident that with everyone's support, we can reach her goal within the next 2 weeks.
It was yet another busy week for Charlize.. Practice, practice, practice.. Her Sensei would tell his students, "You only get what you put in!" We always remind her that hard work pays off..
Last weekend it was a judo tournament.. This past Sunday, it was Hula. She performed with her halau at the Hawaii Book and Music Festival AND at a baby luau the same day. Boy was she tired!! But on Monday, it was back on the mat for her. She is also training with her dad on some conditioning exercises to get her ready for the competition.
Here's a video of one of their dances. She's the second girl in the second row. Enjoy!!!
Until next week's update, Aloha!!
