Advanced Painting Gallery Show

$900 of $900 goal

You have reached the GoFundMe page for the Advanced Painting class at the University of Florida. We are raising money to host our group show at a local gallery space in Gainesville, which turns out to be quite expensive. Our goal is to host a group show in late March with all of our hard work over the course of the last year -- and we’re going to need your help to get there! Our department is unfortunately incredibly underfunded, and due to the closing and unavailability of some of the better free gallery spaces, that leaves us with very limited options on where we can show our work for our senior project.

It may seem as if this amount is high for just a gallery show, but most people do not realize all that goes into one. It is our duty to give the viewers a fun social setting while being able to enjoy the art. The advanced painting class spends most of our money on expensive supplies to create our work, which in the end does not leave us enough to afford spaces for others to view and enjoy our art pieces.

Our class is made up of nine brilliant, talented painters:

Sabrina Chacin paints women from around the world-- including artisans, fruit vendors, and mothers-- showing their lifestyles as well as the strength, color, and energy that they bring to the world.

Jamie Collins renders hauntingly beautiful portraits and scenes of the homeless in her home town in a way that highlights their quiet dignity which society often trivializes and ignores.

Scarlett Correa explores the cross cultural symbolism of animals in dreams as the human subconscious processes stimuli and depicts fragments of dreams in bizarre, visceral, haunting images.

Jesenia Lopez confronts her struggles with her own body image as a Puerto Rican woman through a series of powerful self portraits.

Diane Mayer focuses on the probability of a mass extinction event that threatens even the survival of the human species through poignant and moving scenes of modern life and of nature which she veils in layers of paint scrim. She subtly makes a statement about the value of life on Planet Earth.

Lauren Moncalian created a series of psychological self portraits which express the nuances of human emotion rendered in bold, emotive brushstrokes and a keen sense of color.

Amanda Samuels’ paintings and multimedia installations deal with transformation and identity using a variety of materials from shattered mirrors to snake skin to butterfly wings.

Alyssa Sicard’s work is a collection of portraits that examine the complex bond that forms between people and their pets. She strives to show the personality and consciousness of each animal, no matter how unlikely the bond between it and its human may be.

Ashling Smith’s landscapes and portraits delve into the effects of physical and emotional trauma and the effect a place may have on our mental state based on the connotations we have formed about it.

We’re currently working on a few other fundraisers to help cover the cost of renting out a space including selling prints of our work! If you’d like to make a purchase, please follow the link below which is currently under construction, but will have prints of our work up and running by Saturday the 10th!

Thank you in advance for your time & donation!

Hello all,

I have just recently added $100 to our goal because of the fact this website takes out a commission. I did not add into account that they do that. As of now we are at $729, but still almost there! THANK YOU all for the support and sharing that has been going on to make this possible.
