Help Joshua compete in Abu Dhabi

Donation protected

In October 2016, Joshua's medal winning performance at the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition earned him a place on the Worldskills Australia Skills Squad team among Australia’s best young skilled apprentices and trainees.

Joshua, along with 17 of Australia’s current National Champions from their particular trade or skill has now been succesfully selected to join the elite *2017 Skillaroos forming part of Team Australia that will go on to represent Australia at the world’s largest vocational skills competition – the WorldSkills International Competition, which will take place in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.

Joshua is working tirelessly every day to reach his goal of winning the Gold Medal while representing his country in Abu Dhabi. Often referred to as the Olympic Games for Skills and Trades, the WorldSkills International Competition will see the world’s best trade young men and women, from 76 nations, compete in 50 different categories for the title of World Champion.

To ensure Joshua has the best possible chance of winning a medal, he is now taking on an intensive training program and along with his mentors, category experts and a team of dedicated volunteers Joshua will train and develop his skills, his decision making abilities and build the resilience needed to compete against the world’s best.

With your help we can provide Joshua with the best possible opportunity to achieve his full potential, represent WorldSkills Australia at the International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October and come home with a medal.

ABOUT JOSHUA:
Joshua’s TAFE NSW teacher approached him in his 2nd year of study about the WorldSkills competition when he recognised Joshua’s keen interest in detailed timber joinery.

“I’ve always loved making things and woodwork at school appealed to me. I always did well at it and it has become my skill, passion and career.”

“I loved how beautiful wood is, I’ve always liked it”.

When he isn’t making things or restoring his old VMW Beetle car, Joshua is working hard on his trade and improving his skills.

“It is amazing to work in a trade learning new skills constantly and being creative,” he says.

“Working in a trade develops problem-solving skills and confidence which is vital in being a successful tradesperson. It’s a hands-on learning experience, social and extremely rewarding”.

Joshua wants to have a successful business in bespoke handmade products in the future.

*2017 Skillaroos are champions chosen to represent Australia on the world’s trade and skills stage, and help to secure the future of the skilled Australian workforce.

** Australia is currently ranked 12th in the world and in 2017 we aspire to break into the top 10.
